Hardwired smoke alarms also need replacing.

Being connected to your home's electrical supply doesn't mean the alarm itself lasts indefinitely. The internal sensing components still age, which is why the 10-year replacement recommendation applies to both mains-powered and battery-operated smoke alarms.
