Making an Existing Patterson Lakes Home Work Better

Modern homes use a lot more electrical equipment than they once did, but many established properties simply weren't designed with enough power points in the places we now need them.

Our Ferguson Electrical team recently completed a substantial home electrical upgrade in Patterson Lakes, working across both levels of the property to improve access to power, introduce convenient USB charging and provide cabling for a new security camera system.

Rather than changing the appearance of the entire home, the focus was on practical upgrades that would make everyday living easier.

More Power Points Where They're Actually Needed

A significant part of the project involved replacing existing single power points and installing additional outlets throughout the property.

Works were completed across the living area, laundry, rumpus room, office, kitchen, powder room and multiple bedrooms.

Several existing single outlets were upgraded to double or quad power points, while additional outlets were installed where the homeowners needed greater access to power.

Quad power points were particularly useful in areas such as the office, living spaces and master bedroom, where multiple devices may need to be connected at the same time.

USB Power Points for Easier Charging

We also installed a number of power points with integrated USB outlets throughout the home.

These were used in the kitchen and several bedrooms, including new outlets positioned on either side of the guest bed.

Integrated USB power points can be a handy addition in bedrooms and frequently used areas, reducing the need for separate plug-in charging adaptors while still providing standard power outlets.

Master Bedroom Lighting & Power Upgrade

The master bedroom received several electrical improvements as part of the project.

Three existing single power points were upgraded to double outlets with USB charging, while two additional quad power points were installed to provide considerably more usable power.

The existing switching was also modified and wiring installed in preparation for two new LED downlights supplied by the homeowner.

Planning lighting, switching and power together is a great way to make a bedroom more practical without requiring a complete renovation.

Wiring Seven Security Cameras Around the Home

Security was another important part of this Patterson Lakes project.

Our team wired and installed cabling for seven security camera locations, providing coverage across both the exterior and interior of the property.

External locations included the:

• Backyard
• Garage
• Pergola
• Front porch

Internally, camera locations were provided around the:

• Ground-floor hallway
• Meals area
• Stairwell

For this particular project, the security equipment was supplied by the client and system commissioning was also being handled by the client, with Ferguson Electrical completing the required cabling and installation works.

Planning camera locations carefully helps create useful coverage while keeping the finished installation as neat and unobtrusive as possible.

Electrical Upgrades Without a Full Renovation

One of the things we love about projects like this is that you don't necessarily need a major renovation to make an existing home significantly more functional.

Replacing old single outlets, adding quad power points to high-use areas, introducing USB charging and installing cabling for future technology can all help bring an established property up to the requirements of modern living.

It also gives homeowners an opportunity to think about how they actually use each room rather than simply replacing existing electrical fittings like-for-like.
